Zorig Day & 27th CTAS Foundation Day Celebration

On 1 May 2026, Choki Traditional Art School joyfully marked Zorig Day, a day of profound national significance, which also coincided with the 27th Foundation Day of the school.

The occasion was graced by Hon’ble Thrizen, Kawang Gewog, alongside distinguished guests, alumni, teachers, students, and friends of CTAS. The celebration honored the wisdom of our Monarchs and the sacrifices of our ancestors, reminding us that Zorig Day is not only a festival of art but a solemn reaffirmation of our duty to preserve Bhutan’s timeless heritage.

From humble beginnings with just five students in 1999, CTAS has grown to nurture an average of 160 boys and girls annually, with 416 graduates to date. Our alumni have become artisans, employers, and cultural custodians—painting Dzongs and monasteries across Bhutan and carrying forward the vision of our founder, the late Dasho Choki Dorji.

The celebration was also a moment of recognition and gratitude:

The Best Alumni Association Award was presented to Chairman Dorji Wangchuk, CTAS’s first graduate of 2005, together with his team, whose leadership and support continue to inspire.

Appreciation Certificates were presented to three valued travel partners—Breathe Bhutan, Mercury Bhutan and Bhutan Swallowtail Tours—for bringing many guests to the school and helping sustain our mission.

An Appreciation Certificate was also presented to Mr. Tshedar Dorji, Founder of Fine Arts & Pieces, in recognition of his continued support in helping our students build additional creative skills.

The Service Award honored dedicated members of our school community for their unwavering commitment and selfless contributions

As part of the occasion, CTAS remembered with deep gratitude its late Founder and devoted supporters—the late David Bidwell, late Mario Fontana, late Koenraad Foulon, Alan and Patricia Bickell, along with many other individuals and organizations—whose generosity and steadfast commitment have sustained our mission throughout the years.
